Because there's been more and more interest in running Windows XP on flash drives, I've decided to set up this site as a central repository which others can use for tips, howto's, FAQ's, etc. It'll also be a place for me to talk about other issues relevant to the CarPC hobby. My main interests will be frontend development, Windows customization (using XP Embedded, nLite, etc.), and cool new hardware for the CarPC world. I'll be talking about development of my custom frontend which I've started and restarted mutliple times already.

Hi there, I am looking into running windows on my laptop from my CF card. The 'ideal' solution for this would be to run from a Delkin UDMA Cardbus to CF adapter, this would allow the me to keep my main hard drive (spun down most of the time).
The laptop boots from the Cardbus slot OK. Now I am looking for a way to get Windows to see the 'root' filesystem on the CF card in the cardbus slot. I imagine the kernel Cardbus driver and corresponing storage driver would be need to loaded early on in order for this to be feasible.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Will
Have you tried to boot into XP yet? What errors do you get? If the BIOS sees the Cardbus slot as a bootable drive then it's a start. It would probably be similar to what M-Systems had to do for their uDOC to boot over USB. You have to force XP to load the driver earlier in the boot process. Otherwise XP "loses" the drive as it's booting up.
Check Dietmar's site to see his tutorials on USB booting for the registry changes to give you an idea. http://www.winusb.de/index_en.html
Every time I turn on the ewf is showing that screen of start "windows normally" and is waiting 30 seconds to start the windows, how do I not show this screen?
The cost of SSDs has drop significantly recently. I picked up a 30G for ~$80 and it works excellent as an XP boot drive.
